Abstract

This paper presents a summary of ongoing research on the labour force behaviour of older men in the USA. Our empirical analysis is based on the matched and unmatched March Current Population Survey (CPS). The matched CPS is a new and potentially very rich source of information on dynamic labour force behaviour, and consists of a long sequence of short panels constructed by matching individual records across adjacent-year files of the March CPS. We use these data to describe what we believe are the most salient trends in participation and labour force transitions of older men during the last two decades.
