Methods for analysing and mapping standardized mortality ratios (SMR) for rare causes of death

Abstract

In this paper we review and present methods and models, based on the maximum likelihood approach, for the study of the pattern of variability of a set of standardized mortality ratios. These methods can be useful in analysing and mapping standardized mortality risks for very rare causes of death.
