Congiuntura economica, struttura demografica e decisioni di spesa: il caso dell'Italia nella recessione del'93

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to estimate the effects of the recession of 1993 on the consumptions allocation among goods and services by Italian families. As regard the expenditure allocation, the analysis shows that the recession played a fundamental role on durable and luxury goods strongly reducted in the family budget. Factors influencing expenditure heterogeneity are connected to different households' characteristics and to position in labour market: young cohorts and families with householderes occupied were the most hit, while smaller effects are found for retired people. Finally, uncertainty explains the total expenditure downfall of the older cohorts, while economic policy effected the young generations.
